If you don't believe me have a look at the minutes of the Amenities Committee and see how much all of them are applying for to run their so called projects to improve and better Todmorden!! Those groups that once relied on Government mega money and Calderdale MBC grants now come cap in hand to TTC for a lifeline to even exist. Without such funding they have no future!!

oh I think most of them would carry on just fine without the town council. Except maybe for the useless Tod information centre that sells mostly none Tod items.
The sense of power the town council thinks it has because it can dish out tiny sums of money is all in their minds.

They would have no purpose!!

Post  budgienobling on Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:48 am

Without the funding many of the groups would have no purpose as they rely on it for their project works. You talk about small amounts but in the past year the council has given out grants of many, many thousands of pounds and in one case nearly £100,000 over five years!! If that is small bucks to you then I tend to feel that many of the people of Tod. would not agree. Let's get back to the main issue here of who takes the tax money, pockets it, and doesn't give much of it back in return!!

It's not what it's achieved that's important!!

Post  budgienobling on Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:16 pm

It is not what the amount of money has or has not achieved, but that in the future in my estimation it should be provided from the central pot rather than the people of Todmorden having to foot the bill all the time!!

That would be wages for the manager of the afore mentioned TIC that doesn't even support local business by selling made in Tod gifts but is full of mass produced junk

could be good idea for you want a job, set up a tourist information business, sell made in Tod items and claim your wages from the town council.
In fact this could be the answer for a lot of the towns unemployed. If it's good for one why not others.

Searching the Minutes!!

Post  budgienobling on Fri Apr 27, 2012 2:04 pm

If you do go and look at the minutes for the last five years of TTC you may like to report back to TT that certain TC's always voted against the payment of grants for these huge amounts!! This would also include an ex TC who regularly contributes to this chat line.!!

As Little Voice said, 'you want a job, set up a tourist information business'.
That's already been done. A hundred grand over 5 years, wow and wow again!

Is there any connection between Tod. Tourist Information Centre, TIC, and Calderdale Tourism Board, mentioned byFimbulwinter a few days ago on 'General Todmorden Chat'Question

TIC is open for 6months of the year.

ha ha ha nice one budgie ... but you know the TIC was not the only group that was situated opposite the market that had quite a good funding stream from the council..... there was a certain group that started with SRB funding was going really well in the community and then suddenly overstretched both financially and socially... for reasons only known to those who were involved... If you are interested, the past minutes of this group were also on-line maybe they still are ???

I know the one you mean!!

Post  budgienobling on Fri Apr 27, 2012 6:53 pm

Yes you are correct Joe, there was another group opposite the market that got large pots of money for many varied activities, but fortunately that source was mainly from the Principal Authority and not the TTC. As a former BPP member put in his latest leaflet, it was he himself and a local Independent Councillor who saw through that little game and instigated the closure of that funding avenue. Whether that is correct or not is debatable - but if the cap fits why not take the plaudits!!

Ah now I know what you mean your talking about Tod Together, we all know David claims responsibility for getting them closed down so who is the independent councillor?
