surely it was a council decision, not that of two people, one unelected

Wrong again!!!
It was a decision by an officer when presented with the true facts!! That is why I stated earlier that the implication in the said election leaflet was to say the least very, very, 'debatable'!!

Re: Sainsbury will get through on appeal?
I could never do cryptic either ... there were funds allocated for projects that were spent on other projects that where not part of the groups remit ... this all came to a head after the funding stopped from both CMBC and other small funders.. the group could no longer afford to keep the paid workers that they had and not enough volunteers to run it effectively so it closed..
think that about covers it

Yes, but no!!
Part of your assumptions are correct Joe, but what you fail to say is that CMBC would have carried on paying indefinitely as they were still under the impression that all was as it should be and what was being done was as before. It took a lot of persuading to get them to send an officer to look into the true facts and obviously this opened up a whole new scenario that they then felt they could not carry on supporting. Any clearer!!

that just shows how badly the board, made up partly of councillors were doing their job. If this was going on why weren't the board stepping in to steer things. They can't claim ignorance without also admitting negligence

I do take your point budgie was just trying to keep it short .....

No .. that was just the point .. the board which included 1Town councillor and I think 3 Calderdale councillors ... neither had the will or the (balls) to stop the practice as it was going ... it served the CMBC to have this group going ..and would have kept on if it were not for the likes of budgie asking questions in the right places... I was amazed that no charges were brought or even considered for the executive committee of this group

liability
I presume they are no longer councillors or in any position of authority. As directors were they not personally responsible for losses, it's hard to believe such behaviour if they had a personal liability.JOE wrote:little voice wrote:budgienobling wrote:Part of your assumtions are correct Joe, but what you fail to say is that CMBC would have carried on paying indefinitely as they were still under the impression that all was as it should be and what was being done was as before. If they are still with the councils this should all be made public so people know who not to vote for.

Ha Ha Ha .. I do hope you get a good job there wantwork if it gets built... you are right about the main opposition spokesman going ... but even worse/better (depends on your view) is, the sitting council leader on CMBC is in full support of having this built against her party and Tod council decision

The people are getting restive over this supermarket craze. Todmorden has a similar situation to Malton but unlike that town, we don't have any prominent residents or aristocracy to help us. We need a Lord of the Manor tout de suite. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/hands-off-our-land/9249139/Market-town-claims-supermarket-plans-will-bleed-town-dry.html

" ...is the sitting council leader on CMBC is in full support..."
